After the last couple weekends of taking the Cracks and Holes Hiking Club (a division of the university library drinking club)(motto: we plod along like adorable little mountain goats)(the hiking club’s motto, not the the drinking club), the Pajero had spent the last 150 miles or so leading Honda’s to the middle of nowhere to hike around cracks and holes.

It earned a bath this evening.

This past Saturday was spent walking around Kilbourne Hole. It is indeed a big hole, with the hike around the rim being about 8 miles.

After the extraordinarily wet winter in Southern NM, the desert is still blooming.

It was a great walk through the desert with some fantastic (and appropriately socially distanced) company. It was also  a bit warm by the end of the hike. This will probably be the last low-elevation desert hike until the fall. Until then we’ll either head up into the mountains or stick to short nature walks close to home in the morning or evening.

Big enough that I couldn’t get a picture of the whole thing (pun absolutely intended) from the rim. Back in the day Apollo astronauts did some training here for moon landings, along with some other holes in Sonora.

Like a Pajero, only smaller. That’s a neat find.
